Crystals come in many shapes and sizes. Formed in nature over thousands of years, or millions for the largest, they follow a tight, repeating molecular pattern that gives them their shape. They can also be manufactured in a laboratory, but the chemical formula remains the same. Each crystal will have a slightly different arrangement of molecules, which explains why, for example, raw amethyst differs in appearance from raw aventurine.
But what effect does shape have on the properties of the crystal?
Many, as it turns out. Crystals are programmed with specific healing properties depending on the shape they take as they form. This is why crystals that form in geodes, like amethyst and clear quartz, have similar properties to each other. Obsidian is made from rapidly cooling lava—technically, it's not even a crystal—which gives it an entirely different shape. Its properties are distinct for this reason.
To clarify, it's not the shape itself that causes the differences, but rather the way the crystal is formed. However, the shape of the crystal is a symptom of its formation, and we can therefore determine which properties belong to which crystal based on its shape.
It is generally accepted that there are six families of crystals. However, when you buy crystals, you will probably be more interested in artificial forms.
Tumble Stones

Tumble stones are the most common. They tend to be small and well-polished and can be used for almost any purpose. They are very affordable and radiate their energy in all directions.
Crystal wands

Crystal wands come in various shapes and sizes. They direct positive energy through the chakras. The thicker end of the wand is known to deflect negativity.
Pyramids
Pyramids are a powerful anchor for stabilizing earth energies. With four triangular sides and a square base, they amplify and protect your energy. They look fantastic in the home and help ground energy within your house. They are also excellent to place on your body during chakra healing, provided they are not too large. Their energy strengthens intentions—write one down and leave it beneath the pyramid.
Crystal support points
Standing crystal points are perfect for placing in your living room or bedroom. They have a flat base and rise to a focal point. It is from this point of the crystal that energy flows. They are often used as a center stone in healing grids.
Crystal Hearts
Crystal hearts symbolize love. Smaller talismans are easy to carry, while larger ones look beautiful around the home. They bring harmony to relationships and encourage the healing of emotional wounds.
Crystal balls
Crystal balls are best known for their divinatory properties. You may have seen the stereotypical fortune teller staring intently into a crystal ball, reading the future. It's not as simple as the movies make it seem, but it does enhance intuition and stimulate the third eye. Perfectly round and polished, these spheres bring harmony to your aura.
